The Many Faces Of Kenny Star (Kenny Star vs Derrick Cole - UCW)
UCW Match # 666 - Kenny Star vs Derrick Cole
Derrick Cole is my favorite kind of heel...a sexy tatted up and overconfident cocky punk that's great both giving a beating or being put in his place. Kenny Star is just downright HOT and, if you have witnessed many of his previous matches, suffers beautifully and sells it well. Two preview photos were posted on the UCW Facebook page on Tuesday and I was pleasantly surprised to find the match already up when I checked their website earlier tonight.
With all of the above in mind, there is literally no way this match can disappoint me...OH!!! I almost forgot...there's a chain. Holy shit Derrick Cole has brought a chain. Please one of you put it to good use!
Here is your (as always) spoiler free review:
Derrick stomps in and starts to verbally rip Kenny apart and I can't get enough of it. The series of facial expressions Kenny goes through is the icing on the cake. This is hilarious and I'm loving every minute!
Kenny seems to be just as amused as I am. I can't help but feel he wasn't expecting this and his expressions are all very real. I only point this out because finding such genuine reactions during the pre-match conversation and trash talk seems to be uncommon in the underground wrestling scene. It also makes Kenny 1000x cuter than he already is😆
He gets a few comebacks in, and cracks himself up in the process
Derrick gets fed up and demands the bell be rung to start the match. The banter calms down and expressions go from playful to aggressive. It's time to back up their words with force.
The first 10 minutes is a back and forth of submissions, strikes, and some great reversals, along with more insults and one snarky reference that will even give your straight pro wrestling friends a quick laugh.
Both men are able to get the other stretched out and their physique put on display for the viewer, along with some great displays of agony, but neither is even close to giving up this early in the game.
This could be considered a minor spoiler, but at one point Kenny goes in for a full nelson submission for a 3rd time, and Derrick breaks the hold the same way he has the previous 2. If Kenny hasn't learned this lesson yet, I have a feeling it may foreshadow events to come in the last 15 minutes of this (so far) even match.
The aggression picks up from here, with tighter sub holds and attacks on strategically singled out body parts, along with more confident pinfall attempts. The suffering and screams from both men are also amplified, with the effects of the fight starting to last longer and slowly wear away at each of them. The match continues with one man finding the strength to lunge at his opponents legs and go for a Boston Crab. While unsuccessful, it shows this match is still far from decided. We finally get sweat starting to pour off the guys and both are becoming visibly fatigued. This calls for a change in strategy that includes some dirty tactics, and more from one than the other.
That's all you get from me, but I will say that the ending includes a several minute torment of one of these studs and an ending that leaves one man out cold in the middle of the ring. I won't say if the chain comes into play or not.
Does Kenny's inexperience in the ring do him in?

Regardless of the outcome, I would absolutely LOVE to see Derrick in an actual chain match very soon! All of those hot chokeouts we'd get to see! Imagine Nick Diesel showing up with his ropes, or Chase, Max Ryder, Matt, or Axel or even a rematch with Kenny...after a hard fought match Derrick's opponent ends up back to back with him, and is arched over Derricks back and slowly choked out with the chain. WOOF! Am I right? lol
I would love to see him get another shot at Tyson and the belt as well.
It's just occurred to me that (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) this is Kenny's first ring match at UCW? While there is room for improvement from a frequent indie wrestling viewers standpoint, he is handling himself and holding his own VERY well for his first time and I'm impressed. Derrick picks up the flow and makes up for any shortcomings and I think he was a great choice for Kenny's first UCW ring opponent. He has no where to go but up from here and I would love to see him back in the ring asap!!!
