Wrestler of the Month: February 2025 - Brendan Byers

Out of all the wrestlers I have featured in the past for WotM, Brendan Byers is probably the one with both the longest tenure and catalog of matches in underground wrestling. An easily recognizable name and face to both long time and newer fans of the scene, Brendan's matches arguably never fail to please even the most selective of viewers.

The earliest I could find from Brendan was both from Demolition 8 and Jobberpalozer 5 on BG East where he took on Joe Mazetti and Brooklyn Bodywrecker. Over the years he has transformed himself from a lean jobber to a muscular heel, and one of the best in the business!

While I've only featured 4 or 5 of his matches here on my blog over the years, Brendan has put out some absolute bangers since he started his in-ring career. I'll be highlighting one of my favorites here later this week where he dominates Christian Thorn (aka Shawn Duncan) in a bedroom beat-down from WrestleFrat/Wrestler4Hire.

Shout out to Brendan for taking some time to answer a couple of questions!

1. What made you first decide you wanted to get into wrestling?

When I was about 13, I remember sitting with my Granny, watching wrestling together. I was instantly captivated by the vibrant outfits and dramatic theatrics—it completely drew me in. Over time, I realized there was another reason I enjoyed it so much, and that connection made it even more special to me and I knew I had to wrestle.

2. If you remember, what was the first match that gave you that initial "spark" whether it be from the underground scene or pro/indie wrestling

It was Paul Orndorff. I don’t remember who was against but when he did the piledriver, I knew I wanted to do that.

3. Who was/is your favorite opponent?

This is such a tough question because I have so many favorites! However, if I had to choose, I’d say Gabe Steel. He’s the person I’ve wrestled with the most, and the trust and chemistry we’ve built together always result in amazing content!

4. Do you follow or are you a fan of pro/indie wrestling? If so who are a few of your favorite wrestlers?

Some of my favorites are legends that include Paul Orndorff, Sting, Undertaker and John Cena

5. Who would you like to have a match with that you haven't yet, and why?

This is another tough question because I have so many at the top of my list but if I had to say one, I’d say Mickey Knoxx. We have chatted for a long time and keep missing our opportunities to meet which means he will get a very long demolition.

6. Anything else you'd like to add?
