Axel vs Kenny Star - UCW
Wrestler of the Month feature match
It was a tough call which match to feature of Axel's. I mean, there's so many, and even that many more I still have never checked out. After debating it for quite a while, I decided to go with one of his matches against Kenny Star. Axel and Kenny have battled several times, and this was one of my favorites.
The match opens with Kenny and Axel in the iconic UCW garage, where many of my UCW favorites took place. I loved their ring matches, but the garage setting just had something a little more "underground" to it and felt more intimate. What is supposed to be a training session between the two is interrupted by Nero, who rushes in thinking he's about ref a title match between Axel and Kenny. After thoroughly "inspecting" the new guy (well, newer at the time,) Nero takes a step back, but sticks around matside for the eye candy. Who wouldn't!
Although still a training match, you wouldn't be able to tell. Both guys are very comfortable on the mats and Kenny is in no mood to be a jobber. He's got just as many holds and dirty tactics as Axel does and he can't wait to torture his coach. Same goes for Axel. He doesn't hold back at all and needs to really put Kenny though the ringer if he's going to turn him into an underground star.
After a long struggle, one of these guys gets a solid upper hand and finishes off his opponent in a torturous back-breaking submission that would get even the most experienced grappler to scream out a submission. It's hot as fuck! After a post match handshake, Nero pops back onto the mats to give a sweaty Kenny a good rub down with a towel. You can tell Nero can't want to get his hands on him, and he eventually does several times in future matches.

I'm sure many of you have heard by now that UCW was sold. Who's to say if there will be any future matches under the UCW banner, but thankfully the website is still up for us to check out their treasure trove of matches and I hope it is at the very least maintained. It's sad that we may never see some of the guys like Kenny and other UCW icons on the mats or in the ring again, unless of course another company decides to scout them out.
I have no clue what happened to Kenny, would LOVE to see him back. Plenty of the members of the roster can be found still actively wrestling with other companies. Other UCW guys like Nick Diesel have started wrestling again. He goes by "Overtime" on WatchFighters and has had some matches posted with a few familiar faces. I might not get as lucky with some of my other favorites like Tyson and Joey Cantrell, but I'll keep my fingers crossed!
I might have an idea of who bought UCW, Drew Harper has been trying to work on building own wrestling company, Pretty Boy Wrestling, for a while with little traction. I saw on the UCW site albums, that screenshots of a match between him and Mars, aka Daryn Alexander, were uploaded in the September 2023 album. There is also screenshots in the August 2023 album of a match between Max Ryder, Joker, and Quinn Harper.
