KSW Reader survey results

I couldn't really come up with a good banner for this post, so for the first time and probably the last, I let AI do most of the work 😂

Thanks to everyone who took the time to fill out my reader survey! I was hoping for at least 50 responses and got almost 60 😘 Lets take a look at the results:

Question 1:

Well this is good news! Only 2 of you said no. I've always thought that maybe most readers just stop by for the gifs/photos.

Question 2:

HEY NOW WAIT A MINUTE HERE! Just kidding. I honestly though this would be at least 50/50. To those of you that answered yes, don't worry I understand lol

Question 3:

I really should have worded this one differently, but overall I got the info I was curious about. Most of us don't care for streaming being the only option for a match. Personally, I'm in the both category. I like to download matches but also still have them available to watch online. This way I can watch on different devices and it's also not taking up space on my PC.

Question 4:

I thought this would be another close one, but no big surprise here. Ultimately if you want to see a match badly enough, you're probably going to watch it regardless of the purchase choices... but the people like options! I was in the "yes" category on this one. For example, if a customer purchases a match once and streaming is the only option, it should not be hidden behind a secondary pay-wall. Just my two cents.

Question 5:

A vast majority of responders feel PPV's are becoming antiquated and not worth it. A few of the companies that still offer PPV's also have monthly subscriptions that give you access to part or all of their library which is something to take into account. There were a handfull of responses in the "other" option as well. This response stood out:

"All three. Sites that allow for individual match rental for 1-3 days for a cheaper price is cool. Sites that charge a monthly subscription to see any match in full? That feels outdated and/or overpriced"

Question 6:

So yeah, this result chart is a clusterfuck to look at lol. I should have listed choices instead of leaving it open, but a VAST majority of responses were between $20-$30 (or GBP for a few of you.)  I think that's very reasonable.

Question 7 & 8:

At one point or another, most of us haven't been happy with a match purchase for a variety of reasons.
The top 3 responses of the options I gave:
- The quality of the wrestling was poor
-
Not enough camera angles or camera was too far away from the wrestlers
-
Video/audio quality was low

I also had an "other" option. Most of those responses were related to bad wrestling and deceptive advertising. A few that stood out:

"If the wrestling takes a back seat to sex/posing/joking around, I'm usually disappointed."

"Photos/Preview videos don't match the intensity of the match/were clickbait-ish"

Making money is important, but the big companies also want returning customers. The last thing any of us want is to feel like we've just lit $30 on fire after watching a match.

Question 9:

This is another one I should have worded differently and I should have asked do you prefer photos or a video preview. Regardless, we all like a preview of what we are getting!

Question 10:

Self-explanatory. It's a crowded field, but most fans like browsing and exploring all of companies and creators new and old on places like WatchFighters. Others are creatures of habit. I can't deny I'm mostly the latter...but here and there I will take some extra time and check out websites and individual wrestlers that I haven't in a while.

Question 11:

Pretty even split.

Questions 12 & 13:

When it comes to pro and indie wrestling, its about 50/50, with more of you watching indie wrestling over the pro federations like WWE and AEW.

Questions 14 & 15:

These 2 were for the indie fans and asked what and who your favorite indie companies and wrestlers are. It was awesome to see such a variety of responses! Here are the companies and wrestlers that I found in the replies the most:

Companies:
- Millennium Pro Wrestling
- Beyond Wrestling/WrestlingOpen
- Limitless Wrestling
- AIW

Wrestlers:
Some form of "Too many to list" was the #1 response lol
- Jordan Cruz
- Ashton Day
- Damian Drake
- Effy
- Bryce Saturn

Question 16:

Most of you just like to watch, and just under half like to wrestle at varying degrees. One of you has even wrestled on the indie scene! I wonder who 👀

Thanks again to all that took the time to fill this out!!! I'll probably do this every year. It's nice to get a little peek into the minds of underground wrestling fans and see some great feedback. Some of which can be useful to the community as a whole, in particular creators and companies.
