"Real" Men: Sid Shaw vs Austin Lynch - Weekend Wrestling
It takes a lot of drag my blog back out of hibernation, and thankfully a slew of recent match releases did just that. I picked up Derrick Cole vs Eli Black and Lobo vs Zack from UCW, Scrappy vs Travis from W4H, and Sid Shaw vs Austin Lynch from Weekend. I'll be reviewing that one here:
Weekend Wrestling gets a lot right when it comes to ring matches. One thing that has stood out is their pre-match promos. They are typically amusing and do a really great job at setting up the scenario of the match. The opening of Sid vs Austin is no different.

Sid did a great job getting his name out there before his in-ring debut with Weekend. You might have even been familiar with him already from his indie matches. He has done his homework and knows the underground audience very well. If you didn't know he only recently debuted, you would think he's been on the scene for a long time
JBW plays as Sid's sidekick here, but is officially labeled as the guest referee. The two are a really great pair together. Sid is fed up with the "pretty boys" getting most of the attention and thinks "real" men like he and JBW should be in the spotlight more often. In queue Austin Lynch:
I don't think Austin quite fits the description of a pretty boy...but hes very handsome and has a really nice guy next door build. Just looking at him throws Sid into a rage as he threatens to rip Austin's face off and eat it 😂 I hope that doesn't happen, because we need Austin's infectious smile around for more matches. JBW also reminds Sid that cannibalism is illegal, and that this is wrestling not murder.

The odds are obviously stacked against the scruffy babyface Austin in this match and there was no question that JBW was sure to get involved. Even if he knows his effort will be in vain, Austin still gets his licks in when he can.
As expected, the tables turn in favor of Sid and JBW eventually gets involved well past his officiating duties. It's no secret its game over for Austin after this. This was a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time for Austin and the rugged duo of Sid and JBW take their anger out on him for the remainder of this match. They critique and compliment each others submissions and style until a dual finisher finally leaves the two frustrated heels satisfied and their thirst for revenge against a "pretty boy" quenched.
I haven't come across an underground match this entertaining to watch in quite a while so kudos to all three guys for putting on a really fun show. Sid stands out as the star here. We see a lot of the indie guys test the waters of the scene. They film a few matches and then never come back. I mean hey, it's very obviously not for everyone...but Sid is all in! He knows exactly what he's doing and he knows just what we are looking for. We aren't graced with a gem like this from the indies very often at all, so I sure hope he sticks around for a long time.
