Joey McCoy vs The Handsome Strangler - WeekendWrestling
Weekend Wrestling starts off the new year right by scoring yet another great indie talent, The Handsome Strangler. He makes his debut with WW against underground scrapper Joey McCoy!
Joey McCoy vs The Handsome Strangler - WeekendWrestling
If you have been following Weekend Wrestling closely enough over the past year, you will know that Joey has been paling around with resident "demon psychotherapist" Sid Shaw in an attempt to control his temper and evil soul sucking urges. Some more backstory from the WW website:
"Since losing his temper means someone is going to lose their soul, Joey
is hell bent on avoiding the complications that arise from a roster full
of zombies. Sid suggested that he get some human friends and stop
hanging around some of his underworldly buddies that keep him connected
to his devilish and self-indulgent lifestyle. Joey connected the dots
and thought it was a good time to get a tag partner. The newest member
of the Weekend Wrestling Roster was the only choice, since he didn't
know anything about Joey's past."
Strangler is warming up in the ring when he stops and notices a menacing smoke beginning to fill the room. From behind the mist, a possessed Joey slides into the ring. A good first impression for anyone seeking to convince a new guy to be their tag partner 😂 The whole gimmick is really goofy and over the top but I mean that in a good way and I'm glad Weekend is sticking with it.
Before it is even mentioned in the match, I immediately noticed the size difference between these 2, and is what ultimately leads The Handsome Strangler to decline Joey's proposal to be tag partners. Consumed by his inner demon(s) - Joey attacks!
Demented or not, it's going to take more than one unsuspected attack by the 5'2" McCoy to get anything close to a victory against the much larger Handsome Strangler. Emphasis on the handsome part.
I'm just waiting for that bow tie graphic on his trunks to become a target.
Joey utilizes submissions to do his best to wear down his bigger opponent, but even against Joey's submissions and at times crazed tactics, Strangler reverses with ease...along with his own style of unorthodox attacks. Don't assume this is a squash. It's not at all.
As the match picks up it
becomes a quick paced back and forth, with each of the guys constantly matching and then one-upping
the others intensity minute by minute. Even during the longer submission spots, the energy is still there.
Strangler will do everything he can to snuff out Joey and the darkness inside him, but McCoy is ready to add another soul to his collection. There are so many times that a victory seemed imminent for both guys, especially in the final 10 minutes. I was left guessing until the very end.
I had no doubts about this match before I bought it and couldn't wait for this one to drop. You have 2 talented wrestlers putting on a fierce show for their viewers. The flow of this match is awesome. No awkward moments that take away from the action, none of those unsure "am I doing this right?" glances at the camera man. No distracting fuck ups. This is a great, uninterrupted no holds barred pro match! Both guys really know their audience here and play to us extremely well 😋 Strangler in particular. He's a natural. I sure hope he sticks around!
Does The Handsome Strangler live up to his name and choke the life out of Joey and exorcise his demons? Or does Joey claim yet another soul from the Weekend Wrestling locker room?
